What is happening to compostable & biodegradable packaging

This news documentary shows what is happening to compostable/biodegradable packaging in many municipalities. Although the label states that the packaging is 100% compostable/biodegradable that does not mean that it is being processed properly. In fact, it's most likely to end up in a landfill site.

Most municipalities across the country say they are not equipped to handle commercial composting which requires a substantial investment of monies and time. So compostable/biodegradable packaging is ending up in landfill sites along with other organic waste, according to experts.

The consumers are now buying more compostable products but is it really the best solution for the environment?
