Common questions and answers
What are compostable food trays?
Compostable food trays are trays made of a special material to enable them to be placed in the compost rather than in the garbage. The trays are made from a special cellulose material which breaks down more quickly than traditional plastic trays. This reduces the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills, and helps to reduce your carbon footprint. Because these trays begin to biodegrade quicker than traditional plastic trays, these trays are best suited for meals that will be eaten immediately, or in the near future.
How are compostable food trays different from regular plastic or paper trays?
Compostable trays offer many of the same benefits as plastic trays, with the convenience of paper trays. They are more durable than paper, but can be composted. This provides benefits to the envorinment while maintaining much of the durability of traditional plastic trays. There are different qualities of compostable trays with different features. Cima-Pak's compostable trays can be sealed, placed directly in the oven or microwave and placed in freezer.
